Dave & Doug's Mom and brothers, Don & Dan
In 1990, Doug Meadows (the owner of our store) lost his mother to cancer. This contest is to honor her and for students to honor their mothers—to express their love and appreciation through a writing exercise. We offer this contest to students in grades 1st through 6th. Last year we had over 14,000 entries, and we look forward to your participation this year.

Every year David Douglas Diamonds & Jewelry sponsors a writing contest in our local schools. The kids are asked to write an essay about their mom. Three deserving students win a 1/4 carat diamond (0.25ct), and a gemstone winner is chosen from every classroom that participates.
Hello Teachers,
Just wanted to touch base and give everyone and update regarding this year’s Dazzling Diamonds For Mom writing contest. With over 9,000 entries this year, we have been very busy getting the entries read and judged. The winning students’ certificates will be mailed out to each school this week. As stated in the contest materials, we are trying to award a gemstone to at least one student in every class that participated. If for any reason your class does not receive a winner’s certificate please let us know by email or a phone call. Also, if your student’s name is misspelled on the certificate please let us know so that we can get a corrected certificate mailed out (we do our best, but many times it’s difficult to read the students’ writing).
For those of you who did not participate we encourage you to next year.
Thanks,
Jen Foster
2010 Diamond Winners
We would like to congratulate . . . .

Why my MOM should win a diamond…
She helps me when I am sick. My mom helps me with my problems. My mom cheers me up when I am sad. My mom never lets me starve. My mom plays games when I have nothing to do. My mom can speak two languages. My mom is important to me. My mom works hard with the little ones.
TBA - Sixes Elementary
My mom should win a diamond because she works so hard. She made her own organization. It is called PAWAG. She helps battered woman get help. She always tries to raise money for shelters. She gets bread and bagels from bakerys who donate food. She does so much work for the homeless that I think she should get a award for doing it. Thanks to her. I got to go to a Atlanta Hawks game and go on the court. She does so much things for my family and for other people. That is why my mom should get a diamond.
TBA - Hickory Flat Elementary
My mom should win a diamond for being a great mom. She is dealing with a lot of stress right now because she has to take care of 3 children 5 days a week while my dad works night shifts in the Trauma E.R. We were all adopted and she went through quiet a struggle for 2 out of 3 of us. I am from Nicaragua. She had to stay down there for almost a year to get me out of the country. And I think that deserves a diamond.
